Merrion Square is known as the home of Georgian houses and the park of the privileged. When walking down the streets of Dublin’s Merrion Square, you can still see remaining Georgian Houses and feel like you are no longer in Dublin city because it shows a different side of what Dublin has.
When visiting Dublin in the upcoming summer months, there’s no better place to sit around and enjoy the sunshine than in Dublin’s very own Merrion Square Park. The site was purchased in 1930 by the Roman Catholic Church with plans in place to build a cathedral. However, these never materialised and the park was opened up to the general public in 1974.
There is something in Merrion Square for all ages from young to old. Inside the gates of the park you will find sculptures, the Rutland Memorial, a collection of old Dublin lamp posts, a floral garden, playground and a coffee stand to kill the thirst and feed the hunger.
Other attractions around the park is the National Gallery and the National Museum-Natural History. You can also visit No.29 Fitzwilliam Street in which visitors can take a tour and go back in time through the Georgian years of 1790 to 1820.

Admission to the Merrion Square is free however there is a small fee for No.29 Fitzwilliam Street and the Museums.
