LOCAL ATTRACTIONS #15: NATIONAL MUSEUM OF IRELAND – DECORATIVE ARTS AND HISTORY

The National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History is one of four sites under the National Museum umbrella. It is situated in Collins Barracks, once an army barracks for over 300 years. The museum is home to a wide range of objects and artefacts including weaponry, furniture, silver, ceramics, glassware, Asian art and the Asgard, as well as folk life and costume artefacts.

The museum hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year. These exhibitions change consistently, and it is recommended to visit the museum’s website to see what exhibitions are currently on show. 2023 has seen a number of wonderful exhibitions, including “Down to Earth - Exploring Ireland's Geology". This detailed exhibition focuses on the geology of Ireland that tells the story of how scientists have developed their understanding of our planet over the last 175 years.
