The National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History is one of four sites under the National Museum umbrella. It is situated in Collins Barracks, once an army barracks for over 300 years. The museum is home to a wide range of objects and artefacts including weaponry, furniture, silver, ceramics, glassware, Asian art and the Asgard, as well as folk life and costume artefacts.
The museum hosts a number of exhibitions throughout the year. These exhibitions change consistently, and it is recommended to visit the museum’s website to see what exhibitions are currently on show. 2020 has seen a number of wonderful exhibitions, including “Irish Wars 1919 to 1923”. This detailed exhibition showcases 50 newly displayed objects and explores a number of themes during this era including civil disobedience, imprisonment, hunger strike, propaganda, women in warfare.
Another popular exhibition currently showing is “Ireland in Focus: Photographing the 1950s”. This exhibition focuses on three photographers from France and North America and discusses Ireland in the 1050s through their work and the people they photographed.
